7 card hi-lo poker - Cards speak
The name is a simple way of saying, “let
the cards speak for themselves.” In this variation,
all players must expose their hole card after the final
round of betting.
The best high hand and the best low hand are determined
by the showdown and the pot is then split. It is possible
for a single player’s hand to be the best in both
directions, and tied for best in another direction.
Three quarters of the pot, can therefore, be taken by
one player.
Cards speak with fixed limits and a limited number
of raises is the easiest variety of 7-card Hi-Lo. It
is easier than games where declaration is required because
depends much less on ones ability to read the cards
and determine which way you opponents are going.
In cards speak you don’t have to worry about
mis-declaring a hand that would have won in the other
direction, and you don’t have to weigh the risks
of losing everything in order to have a chance to scoop
the pot when you feel sure of winning in one direction,
but are merely a possible winner in the other.
Therefore, it is possible for the game to be played
more mechanically, with more of your attention devoted
to your own cards and the probability of them being
the winner. Efforts to deceive your opponents about
the direction of your hand are less important. There
is thus less scope for skill and experience to give
a big advantage to some players.
Cards speak, is therefore, well suited to home games
as its it does not put the less experienced players
at a big disadvantage. However, more experienced players
may find this variation a bit too undemanding compared
to the declaration method.
As mentioned, game playing technique for various rounds
of 7 card Hi-Lo is much like other 7 card games. For
